Saturday: Slept in. Had waffles, as I would every morning (it's easier to just say "waffles" when my grandmother asks what I want to eat than it is to deal with her fussing about preparing anything else... so leggo-my-eggo all through the trip). Lolled around the house. Pet the cat that came to visit, which is a much friendlier cat than the ones I've met around there before. It curled up in my lap for a little while, but mostly just wanted lots and lots of petting and wouldn't hold still. Lunch somehow ended up really late and we didn't finish until close to 4:30pm. This is incredibly odd for my grandparents. My granddad commented that it was almost time for dinner, to which we went noooooo. But then, they skipped dinner altogether! This is REALLY weird for my grandparents and left me very hungry late that night. I ate some See's that I'd picked up on the drive north on Friday and snuck a tub of cashews and peanuts upstairs to munch a little.

Sunday: More weirdness. My grandfather skipped church for the first time I can remember, after he started fussing about my getting picked up for their weekly lunch at the Chinese restaurant after church (because one thing I will not do for my grandparents or anyone else is go to church) or walking there (an option I was given for the first time ever and would have taken). But he suddenly dug in his heels and stayed home. And slept in the recliner all morning. He snores. But I kept him company, which I think was important, and when grandma got back she let me drive and we went to lunch. I was so hungry from not having dinner the night before that I ate the whole meal and didn't have any leftovers. That restaurant is nice. They have this lovely crunchy cabbage appetizer that they bring out with the tea and water that I've never seen anywhere else. And I'm so glad she let me drive. I've driven with just her before, but this was the first time with both of them and grandma got in the back seat. At this point I'm driving whenever I'm in the car with them, and I'm so so so so glad.

We were home for a couple of hours, and I went out in the back yard to take pictures and generally enjoy the day. It's odd, but this is the first trip I've ever made to California that I didn't go walking around the block. Maybe I made up for it with La Jolla and all the beachfront walking I did there, but it's still strange. Then I headed off to [info]yamaneko's place for dinner. She and Steph took me to one of the Japanese markets near their place and made me get far too many things to take home (and alas, one of the last bread-things I had left got squished to death in my backpack on the way back today). So I have interesting stuff to try, and they put together the most delicious stew-type meal and fruit salad. Josh came over and we had a little anime night. I'd caught the last bit of Steamboy when I first got there, then they decided I had to get hooked on Invader Zim while dinner was cooking (mission accomplished, darnit), and then a couple episodes of Mahou Tsukai Tai before I had to get going (the sixth disc where it gets really freaky and surreal). I had a lot of fun. :) And then back to my grandparents' to crash.

Monday: Slept in later than I'd planned. One of those times where I woke up, thought I could sleep a little past 8:00, especially since my granddad wasn't up yet, and the next thing I knew it was 10:30. I went shopping after lunch to get more See's and stop by the LUSH store. And I made an awesome discovery at LUSH: they have some new bath ballistic gift sets. Four-packs. They've got a couple of them, but the Fab Four one is just perfect: a Big Blue (was already going to get), an Avobath (ditto, it and the Big Blue are among my favorites), a Honey Bee (hadn't planned on it, but it's a nice one), and a Sicilian (my all-time favorite and only available in gift sets). Muahaha. If anyone wants to know a nice gift for me that's under $25, there you go. It looks like some of the contents rotate, since the website lists a Bollywood instead of a Honey Bee, but hey, I bought a Bollywood anyway. And it says it's supposed to be fruity, so I bet the Sicilian stays. There will be much bathtime happiness. They also gave me a Randy soap sample that I find very funny because it's got brandy, rum, and cognac in it. Can you imagine washing with that and then driving and getting pulled over? It's just soap, officer, I swear! [Edit: though upon trying it I don't like the scent very much, so I don't think that will ever be a problem.]

Dinner was something of an adventure that night, because my grandmother decided to get some soup from the Chinese restaurant and serve that with the leftovers from Sunday. Except... I didn't have leftovers, because I'd been so hungry and finished everything. She couldn't seem to get that through her brain, because she came out twice to ask me which rice I'd had with my meal. And as it turned out they'd given her so much soup and rice that there was plenty to eat, but I was a little leery there for a while. And we had some honeydew melon. My grandmother can pick a melon better than anyone I've ever known, anyone my mom has known. They're always perfect, and I don't know how she does it. Even with the melons I don't usually eat, I'll eat them when she picks them.
