Friday: Travel, travel, travel. Nothing too exciting in that department aside from getting on the road at 5:00am. Yecch. Nobody in the center seat on either flight, which was nice, and I managed to get a little bit of sleep. I got things sorted at the car rental place and was soon tooling out in a free upgrade PT Cruiser. And I have to say I hope I never drive one again. It has some neat features, but they don't outweigh the worst turning radius I've seen on any car including Steven's truck and a generally uncomfortable ride on the freeway. But it worked, and around town without needing to worry about the turning radius it was fine. I went straight to La Jolla Cove to see what I missed last visit, and it was well worth it. There were harbor seals with their pups, which was very cool. It was also an exceptionally low tide, so I went across an inlet to poke among some tidepools. I met a woman who had brought her grandchildren to the ocean for the first time (they live in Texas, which got us talking about the Chihuahuan Desert), and I took pictures of them and she took pictures of me and then I helped the kids back across the inlet when it started getting late and the tide was coming in and would close things off. I didn't go paddling since I had my backpack and camera with me, but I ended up wet to the waist and happy as a lark. I left around 5:00pm and hit traffic on the way north (no surprise, really), so stopped to dawdle over dinner and read more of my book. I got to my grandparents' place around 9:30pm and pretty much crashed as the long day and time difference caught up with me.
