I got to Janice and Gideon's significantly later than I'd planned, but my only regret was not getting to spend more time at La Jolla Cove. :> I still made it before too much had started and I definitely wasn't the last person there. I'd just planned to get there earlier to spend time with Janice and Gideon by themselves a bit first. Oh well! :) I was handed the then-7-month-old Lorelei and spent the evening going 'eek' and 'help!' because I didn't have the slightest idea what to do with a baby. I hadn't held one since my cousin was born when I was six. :P She got passed around through the evening. In these pictures are Berto, Janice (mom), and Jess holding Lorelei.
Jess and I both spent the night. Jess slept in Lorelei's room and I had the cat Tiger to keep me company. They all skipped classes the next morning to hang out. We went to breakfast, then came back to the house. Gideon took off, but Janice, Jess, and I sat and talked and talked and talked and kept an eye on Lorelei and I had a marvelous time. I finally had to leave in order to make it in time for my next stop, but it was so much fun.
I went to visit my great-aunt Barbara, who lives about 20 miles up the road from Janice and Gideon. I ended up spending the night there because I came down sick that evening. Barbara is so nice -- I'd met her at family reunions and she was my favorite of the extended family when I was a kid. I think it holds true as an adult, too. Her son and his family live next door, so in the morning her two grandsons whirled in to demand breakfast. I didn't get back to Pacific Palisades until mid-afternoon... I bought cold medicine and went to bed! Fortunately that was my last planned side-trip for the California visit, so I was able to concentrate on getting better until I flew home.
